The Romantic South Devon Coast
The coast of South Devon has few peers in terms of the variety of scenery on offer. Its vibrant history also adds to the romantic atmosphere that attracts millions of visitors to these shores. It is this romanticism that photographer Lee Pengelly set out to capture in this book.
Golden beaches, hidden harbours, deep river valleys and busy seaside resorts rub shoulders along the 115 miles of coast from Plymouth to the Dorset border. Everywhere are echoes of Devon’s maritime heritage, nestling anchorages from where pilgrims and pirates each sailed out to meet their fate. Redolent with history, imbued with superb scenery, this is the obvious place to escape from the cares of the world, and this book reminds us why. Aimed at the romantic within us all The Romantic South Devon Coast is a wonderful pictorial celebration of one of Britain’s most hauntingly beautiful landscapes.
Lee Pengelly was born in Plymouth in 1970 and lives and works in Devon. He picked up his first camera in his early twenties and became instantly hooked with photography. In order to develop his skills, Lee studied a two year course with the Bureau of Freelance Photographers, which also provided him with an understanding of the commercial side of the business and covered all the aspects of marketing his work.
