Perfect Exmoor

If you’ve never been there, you might think that Exmoor, one of Britain’s smallest National Parks, is somewhere you could see in an hour. But once there, you’ll know that the hills go on forever, that there is always another valley with another stream tumbling out from behind another spur. You will discover that, behind you, the hills are fading into the haze of the sky and ahead the cliffs are dissolving into the sea mist.

And then, as you begin to wonder just how many amazing places can be packed into such a small space, you’ll realise how big Exmoor really is, with its incredible number of unique, breathtaking vistas and variety of both landscapes and geology. It becomes a world unto itself, a world where you can stride over lonely heather covered moors, feeling yourself striding through uplands only to find the sea suddenly hundreds of feet below and a tranquil manicured village just around the next bend of the road.

In this sumptuous new book, expert locally-based photographer Neville Stanikk has gathered together an unashamedly romantic and dramatic selection of over 140 stunning colour photographs to show Exmoor at its perfect best.

Neville Stanikk grew up in South Devon where, one day, he picked up his camera and never really put it down again. During his travels, he photographed the book Southampton: Portrait of a Maritime City for Halsgrove, and dallied for many years in advertising, before returning to Devon. From his home near Barnstaple, he has carved out a successful niche photographing the beauties of both Exmoor and North Devon.
