The Western Dales lie on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park roughly between Kirkby Lonsdale in the north to Skipton in the south running along the busy A65 trunk road. The area includes Yorkshire's famous Three Peaks country featuring the highest peaks in the county.

These walks visit famous landmarks such as Malham Cove and Goredale Scar and the subsidiary valleys including Ribblesdale, Clapdale, Twisleton and Dentdale. The Western Dales offers both easy and more challenging walking in the magnificent limestone surroundings with valley walks, waterfalls in abundance and an ascent of the magnificent Ingleborough.

In line with other books in the series 10 walks have been selected with the majority being short and easy; suitable for a half day with the family, but also including a couple more challenging walks to give a taste of the fell walking also available. The ten walks are:

MALHAM COVE AND GOREDALE SCAR • MALHAM TARN AND COVE • SETTLE AND ATTERMIRE SCAR • STAINFORTH, FEIZOR AND THE RIBBLE • AUSTWICK AND CLAPPERSDALE • AROUND CLAPHAM BECK • INGLETON FALLS • CHAPEL LE DALE AND TWISLETON SCARS • INGLEBOROUGH • HEAD OF DENTDALE.
