Barnsley Streets Vol. 1

The name of Edward Tasker is synonymous with the history of Barnsley. For nearly twenty years, the books containing collections of his photographic history of the town, have become progressively more respected as both historic records and collectors items. Now, in close cooperation with the members of the Tasker Trust and Barnsley Public Libraries Archive Department, Wharncliffe Books are delighted to present a revised and updated republishing of these sought after books.For the Millennium year, Wharncliffe Books are publishing an enlarged Volume 1, which will contain information and illustrations previously featured in the old Volumes 1, 3 and 4, plus the same views as they are today, with updated information regarding the changes of occupancy of all the buildings listed.The streets and roads included in this first volume are: Churchfield, Church Street, St Mary's Place, Market Hill, Peel Street, Cheapside and both sides of Sheffield Road.Wharncliffe Books are greatly indebted to the members of the Tasker Trust, in particular Mr Raymond Walker and the stafff of Barnsley Archives for assistance in the preparation of these books.These new editions of this much sought after publication already appear destined to become collectors items in their own right.
