The ACTIVE version of this Explorer map. Laminated to be waterproof, this version adds protection against the weather and increases overall durability. A popular choice for walkers, off-road cyclists, horse riders, theyre ideal for those who enjoy outdoor activities and need the all-weather capabilities but still want to know exactly where they are going. Plus, if you want to plan your walk before you go you can write on our Active maps with washable ink and wipe them clean afterwards without problem. Theyre also great for exploring areas where the map is going to be heavily used, or for teaching purposes. Explorer maps are the definitive map for walkers, ramblers, off-road cyclists and horse riders but with all the information that the casual tourist requires. For the active, the map shows byways, footpaths and bridleways (including permitted) as well as traffic free cycle routes. National Trails and long distance routes are also depicted. Public rights of way are shown (with the exclusion of Scotland) and where applicable open access land is recorded. The map provides a wealth of information on general features and vegetation including youth hostels, bunkhouses, bus/coach stations, footbridges, tidal limits, wells and springs, woods, scrub, bracken, marsh, basically all that one needs to navigate safely through the countryside. The tourist is by no means left out with a wealth of information geared towards their needs such as parking, information and visitor centres, public conveniences, telephones, golf courses, picnic sites, cycle trails, public houses, country parks, gardens, water sport locations, fishing, museums, castles, historic monuments and National Trust sites. The tourist and leisure information is also written in German and French. Height is registered by contour lines which are at 5 metres, except in higher areas where they are every 10 metres. Most of the maps in this series cover an area of 30 by 20 km (18¾ by 12½ miles) although the double sided maps cover a larger area. The maps are overlaid by latitude and longitude lines of the National grid which are spaced at 1 km intervals and they are GPS friendly
