Cavan, Leitrim, Longford, Meath and Westmeath ~ The Outstanding All Weather...

Feeling lost then get back on track with this map

  • Extremely durable waterproof polyester protection
  • Useful sleeve with printed distance measure and romer

Description

This Weatherproof OSI Discovery map is the last word in durability and will outlast many other apparently similar products. The map is covered in tough polyester film which is much stronger than the polypropylene commonly used. The map is supplied in a matt see-through plastic wallet printed with a compass, to help you get your bearings, and a distance ruler which measures both miles and kilometers. Please note that the wallet is oversize as it’s manufactured for OS Landranger maps.

This map is ideal for the serious cyclist or walker who needs it to withstand not only the weather but also general wear and tear. It can even be used to shelter under in a downpour! Be assured that once you have used an “Outstanding All Weather Map” you will accept no substitute!

The rugged nature of the map also makes it a perfect choice for the likes of libraries and tour companies, where constant handling soon ruins a paper map.

Discovery maps are the Southern Irish equivalent of the OS Landranger series and every bit as good. They are designed for walkers, ramblers, off-road cyclists and horse riders, but also contain information for the casual tourist. There are no Explorer equivalent maps (1:25 000 scale) for Ireland but the Discovery mapping is remarkably clear and should present no problem for the walker. The relief is shown via contour lines which are at 10 metre intervals and are easy to distinguish with spot heights being marked, this makes figuring out the lie of the land quite simple. Cycle routes and waymarked walks are also shown as well as general footpaths and tracks.

The map provides comprehensive information on land features including canals, lakes, tidal limits, coniferous and natural woodland as well as more general detail such as churches, post office and police stations. Oddly enough though, it does not show pubs which is a bit of a blow for the thirsty walker!

The tourist and leisure information is also written in Gaelic, French and German. There are 93 sheets in the series in total which cover the entirety of Ireland; 75 "Discovery" maps are published by Ordnance Survey Ireland to cover Southern Ireland and running alongside these 18 "Discoverer" maps are produced by Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland to cover areas in Northern Ireland.

In our opinion, you really can’t go far wrong with these maps, if you overlook the lack of marked watering holes.
