Albania (full name, The Republic of Albania) covers an area of approximately 28,800 sq km. Its terrain is mostly hilly and mountainous with small plains along the coast. Albania borders Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo, and has 362 km of coastline. The country is divided into 12 counties: Berat, Diber, Durres, Elbasan, Fier, Gjirokaster, Korce, Kukes, Lezhe, Shkoder, Tirane and Vlore. Tirana is the capital, with a time difference of 1 hour ahead of GMT. The currency is the lek, and exports include chromium and chrome products, and processed foodstuffs. The population of approximately 3,600,000 people comprises an ethnic makeup that is 95% Albanian. The primary language is Albanian, and the predominant religions are Islam and Christianity.
