Moldova (full name, Republic of Moldova) covers an area of approximately 33,800sq km with a terrain consisting of rolling steppe which gradually slopes south to the Black Sea. Moldova borders Romania and Ukraine, and is completely landlocked. The country is divided into 32 raions, three municipalities, one autonomous territorial unit, and one territorial unit. Chisinau is the capital, with a time difference of 2 hours ahead of GMT. The currency is the leu, and exports include foodstuffs, animal products, vegetable products and textiles. The population of approximately 4,300,000 people comprises an ethnic makeup that is 78.2% Moldovan/Romanian. The primary languages are Moldovan and Russian, and the predominant religion is Christianity.
