US Virgin Islands
The United States (US) Virgin Islands is an organized, unincorporated territory of the US. The islands lie between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, east of Puerto Rico. Covering an area of approximately 1,910 sq km and with 188 km of coastline, the islands’ terrain is mostly hilly to rugged and mountainous with little level land. Charlotte Amalie is the capital, with a time difference of 4 hours behind that of GMT. The currency is the US dollar, and exports include oil and pertolium products. The population of approximately 110,000 people has an ethnic mix including 76.2% black and 13.1% white. The primary languages are English, Spanish/Spanish Creole and French/French Creole, and the predominant religion is Christianity.
