Northern Africa
Countries found in Northern Africa include Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, Western Sahara and Algeria. The geography is dominated by the Atlas Mountains which run for 2,000 km from Morocco to Tunisia. To the south and east, the mountains give way to a steppe landscape which, in turn, gives way to the vast Sahara desert. Northern Africa has a predominantly Islamic culture and the Arabic language is prevalent across the region. Some areas, especially Morocco and Tunisia, have become popular tourist destinations, while other countries, such as Libya and Algeria are exploiting their oil and gas reserves. Largely thanks to the mighty Nile, Egypt has developed a more varied economy involving agriculture and industry.
